To pay tribute to those little angels  who were victims  of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting on December 14, 2012,    please read the article in the December 2013 issue of Magnificat. The article can be read on Skyview, which is found here . It touched my heart and brought me to tears. And please say a prayer for the students' families.

The Magnificat's Meditation of the Day for Tuesday was "Huron Carol".  It was the first North American Christmas carol.  The song was written by Jesuit father and North American martyr Saint Jean de Brebeuf pencil drawing by Helen Hull Hitchcock in Quebec, Canada, where he was a missionary to the Huron people.  The words are not exactly the same as in the devotional, but I think they both express the love Brebeuf felt for Jesus and the Huron people.     World Gratitude Day A strange concept, being thankful around the globe just one day a year out of 365 days! In the past, I have written in my journal five things for which  I am appreciative on a daily basis. However, I do see the virtue of proclaiming a World Gratitude Day … clarifying to everyone, that no matter our economic status,  where we live,  in what kind of abode in which we dwell,  our outer shell's appearance,  what religious faith we practice,  each of us  has reasons to be grateful. In addition, I include a quote here from my daily devotional, the Magnificat : “We who take access to words for granted  should pause to be grateful to those  who preserved the Gospel words  so carefully  and spread them to the utmost bounds of the world  without benefit of the printing press  or instantaneous media.” ~ Magnificat : Saturday morning, September 21~

When I received the May issue of Magnificat, I was pleasantly surprised to see a prayer card with Pope Francis on the front and a prayer on the back side was included. May God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit assist Pope Francis in his guidance of the Church.

A Christmas gift from two granddaughters  is aiding me on my Lenten path this year.   They had checked my wish list on Amazon.com  and saw that my number one wish  was to have a year's subscription to the Magnificat magazine  published by St. Anthony Messenger Press . Having an interest in the lives of saints, I ordered Lent with the Saints: Daily Reflections by Greg Friedman, O.F.M. Today's reading and suggestion... (Reflect, then write a petition  for some special need.) led to my composing a prayer. Lord, I ask that my trust in you grow and bloom as does the cactus in the desert. My thirst for faith in you to be quenched alone by your Word.
