DAY 289 of NONNIE'S PHOTO A DAY: Vintage Photo of Charlie and Our Momma

stern looking baby Mom’s face full of joy and pride older sister too I have a vivid memory of my sitting on the blue divan and Momma’s putting my baby brother Charlie on my lap.  He was adorable and sweet.  His sweet nature never changed. He was so well-thought of that his home improvement customers not only came to Charlie’s funeral but chose to speak of how Charlie made them feel. I miss him still and I know that his family does too.  Rest in peace, my sweet brother. shared with Jane's VINTAGE WEEKLY

Happy Birthday, Momma

Happy Birthday, Momma April 1, 2014 Happy Birthday, Momma! I am sending you a Spiritual Bouquet to celebrate your everlasting love that  you showed Charlie and me throughout our childhood years  and into our adulthood. You were always there  for whatever tribulations  we encountered,  and you were certainly there  for all our milestones. No matter how many years have passed,  there are times I wish that  just one more time I could hear your laughter, like when you blitzed Charles playing gin! Are the two of you now playing cards? I hope so. Momma, here are your birthday cards: Our Blessed Mother is holding the rosary made with the roses from Father Keane's funeral. Happy birthday from all of us! I love you, Norma Ruth sharing with Hettienne's Mondays with Mary

Veterans Day

Veterans Day Formerly called Armistice Day  marked the end of the war to end all wars,  World War I.   This photo from History of Veterans Day was taken two minutes  before the armistice  was to go in effect  shows soldiers   from the 353rd Infantry near a church in  Stenay, Meuse in France .   My mother's dad served three years in the 165th (Mine) of the Company Coast Regiment of Artillery Corps. My information comes  from his discharge papers. Since I was born before America entered into World War II, I have faint memories of being aware that three of my momma's six brothers were  overseas serving. Uncle Raymond was in the Navy. Uncle John also was in the Navy,  but he was attached to the Marines  as a corpsman. Uncle John was only 17 when he enlisted. Obviously, he did not tell his true age. Uncle Roy was in the Army. My grandmother must have done  some heavy praying during those years, what with three sons be...

Father's Day 2013

Happy Father's Day, Dad!  May you be wrapped in the arms of our Savior. I took all three of these photos  in the early 1960s. I inserted the heart with an arrow to signify my broken heart because all three pictured here are gone. At left is my younger brother Charlie, then Daddy  and my Momma.  This one photo was taken in my hubby's and my home. The other two were taken in my parents' home. Pictured with Daddy is Little Bit. A warm memory I cherish is of my Momma calling me after my three babies (aged 1, 2 & 3) were asleep.  She told me to bring them over so that they could witness Little Bit's babies being born. So I wrapped them up, and off we went!  Here with Daddy are his older  brother Elbert and younger brother George.

A Memory of My Momma and Music

A Memory of My Momma and Music    April 3, 2013 During my youth, my momma and I enjoyed music from her extensive record  (meaning 78 rpm and LP [33 1/3 €] ) records.   Some genres that she introduced to me were  Ragtime, Blues and Big Band Era.   However, she also had an album  of Tchaikovsky’s “Nutcracker Suite.”   I see myself now in the living room  of our upstairs apartment on West 10th Street.   As I view this scene, the 7 year old girl takes the 33 1/3 € disc  out of the yellow-covered album  and places it on the record player gently,  she lays the needle gingerly on the outer edge of the record.  Now she is raising her arms to wave them to  the rhythm of the songs, imagining herself the conductor  of the Boston Pops Orchestra.   (This orchestra is a guess so many decades later.)   She plays some of the songs so many times  that the ridges wear away.   Her mother never says...
