Wordle #177: My Free Verse

Leaves blowing from the trees,  meandering down the street. Summer’s ending…on the edge of autumn. But the trees are not sending out their usual signal of leaves brilliant in orange , gold and red   which normally illuminate my days,  weeks before they become heavy  with the dread  of winter’s cold boring into my aching bones. Dismal is the weather,  the wind’s power being thrust at me like bullets from a pistol,  causing me to lock my door… fearful of what will follow. But as I gaze out the window, what is that I spot , a lonely plant ? Could it be the last rose of summer, dressed in its grandeur  like Cinderella for the ball ? sharing my free-verse at  Brenda Warren's The Sunday Whirl and Wordle #177

Wordle #172 by Nonnie

WORDLE #172 Being young and in love, I pictured our wedded bliss as the church bells gave sound . Fear, irritation   jumbled around in my head. Would he disclose secrets? The female dancer  dressed in flamboyant colors  boogied pleasingly. At the gun’s signal , en masse swimmers dived and raced the pool’s length. My tummy gurgled as my appetite increased  due to lack of food. Will I ever tire  of the setting of the sun ,  its ever splendid beauty? Pulling off my point , arguing with my brother,  I had the last word!  sharing Wordle #172  at   Brenda Warren's   The Sunday Whirl

Wordle 143: Storm

Wordle 143 List:  illuminates,  scenes,  haunt,  impact,  price,  pool,  litter,  need,  one,  remote,  storm,  lifeless The soft light illuminates my way.   Hurrying past the scenes that haunt and litter   my memories of this place, I rush to seek shelter  before the pending storm arrives.   Going through the cabin’s door that stands ajar, I pray for the one thing I need,  solitude with no emotional price  on my already impacted nerves.   Just as I enter, I hear a sound  radiating from the remote corner of the room.   Tip-toeing, trying hard not to announce my presence,  I sight a lifeless body in a pool of blood.   What have I brought upon myself, what should I do... photo found here , and edited on PicMonkey happily linking  to The Sunday Whirl

Wordle #142: A Story

Word List: spare   sky   scarlet   struck   behind    save   expect   might   caress   pair   first   bit   My first thought this morning  upon discovering no water flowing  when I turned on the taps:  What did I expect upon hearing the forecast  of negative temperatures?  Why didn’t I follow through  when struck with the idea of leaving a faucet open,  dribbling water through the night?   Of course, looking behind   usually brings forward intelligent advice.  Next, running through my brain:  Frigid temperatures, radiating from the snow-filled sky ,  freezing my water pipes,  spare my being stuck inside and developing ‘cabin fever’! At least, a bit of logic  did caress my mind so that I filled five containers  with water, just in case.   How will I save water,  available only fro...

Wordle 98: My First-Born

Word List for Wordle 98: blue   blessed   deserves   first   gasps   instant    slap   snare   dust   unbalance   ride   wings My Story: My blessed first -born son… in an instant , his heart  clutches tightly to mine. His father waits patiently for son’s blue eyes to transform to the hue of his brown eyes. (They never did; he is our only  blue-eyed child.) When I walk downtown,  my babe swaddled in his stroller, a motherly figure approaches  and gasps  at his beauty,  then asks, “What is her name?” I reply only with his male surname,  having all logic caught in the snare of a brain-freeze. Then out of her mouth  comes this, insensitive to me, riposte, “But, he’s too pretty for a boy!” This is the very first time that this happens.  The surprise of her thoughtlessness  is a slap to my face and throws me into an unbalance...

Wordle 91: A Verse

Verse of A Disappointing Life The drunk woke to find himself in a ditch at the bends of the river near the palace .   Virtue lived in no room in his life.   His mind was diminishing because of his intake of alcohol.   He had once had a wish to take the steps to redeem himself of the wounds his family had endured through his breaks of promises.   Now if only a tale or poetry could set the scene aright!  Alas, it would take more than words to weave the family together again. more Wordle 91

Awake and listen ; I hear mirth! Giddy giggling that is contagious. Take a breath , you may want to join it! Aah, don’t be bitter just because that  venture into laughter didn’t begin with you. Perhaps that first step into merriment will lead you to the clarity that life is more than a tumult , more than what you now view as a tormenting fire within your soul. Lean a bit closer, don’t you want to feel that way,  that life can be a practice in the blending of tragedy and comedy? linked to The Sunday Whirl for Wordle 90
