Wordle #142: A Story

Word List:
spare   sky   scarlet   struck   behind
save   expect   might   caress   pair   first   bit

My first thought this morning
upon discovering no water flowing
when I turned on the taps:
What did I expect upon hearing the forecast
of negative temperatures?
Why didn’t I follow through
when struck with the idea of leaving a faucet open,
dribbling water through the night?
Of course, looking behind
usually brings forward intelligent advice.
Next, running through my brain:
Frigid temperatures, radiating from the snow-filled sky
freezing my water pipes,
spare my being stuck inside and developing ‘cabin fever’!
At least, a bit of logic
did caress my mind so that I filled five containers
with water, just in case.
How will I save water,
available only from containers filled last night,
hoping against hope that the pipes would not freeze?
Might I picture Lady Luck
warming the pipes enough so that water will yet begin to flow?
Should I delve more deeply into Fantasyland
and picture Lady Luck being wrapped in scarlet
and toting a pair of super-sized hair dryers
that could thaw my pipes?

One of the attractions of coming to Australia from the UK nearly fifty years ago was to put all that behind. The pictures are pretty it is just the thought of the cold and inconvenience that is not.

Oh dear! I hope this was a made-up story but I fear it is for real! I like your snowy photos.

nope, all but the Lady Luck fantasy is true! I have a plumber coming tomorrow, with power being out for so many, that's a fast response.

you are one lucky 'egg'! with all my family being here in Indiana, I'd find it difficult living anywhere else.

Oh, dear. I remember being in two different homes, even with running water... when the wind was just right freezing and bursting pipes. Not fun. I like your vision of Lady Luck welding hair dryers for your pipes. I think that day here where temps seemed like -17F (I don't remember them warning about having a trickle going) I had my fire place going most of the day. Tough when your main utility is all electric. And the back up is on constantly because the heat pump just can't keep up.

Stay safe for the rest of this winter - I think we still have quite a bit of winter to go.
Thanks for your visit ~ Jules.

Jules, I think this winter will be far different from ones we've grown used to in the past few years.
