My Treasure: A Dictionary

After I had imbibed on the words  deliciously served by CJ on his blog Rambles from My Chair (found here ), I was struck with the urgent need to possess my own Concise Oxford Dictionary ! Now to see if I could afford to own this treasure. Off I go to my favorite site Amazon.com . There I am pleased as punch to find it at a reasonable price. I click on "Buy now with one click", record it in my check register...then store the memory who-knows-where in the land of my brain. Two days later while my granddaughter and her dumpling are visiting, we hear someone at the door, but no one enters. I proceed to open the front door and see a package. Said visitor asks me, "What is it, Grams?" I reply that I don't remember what I ordered. I rush the mystery package over to the counter so that I can rip it open. When I spy my new treasure, I blurt out, "Oh, it's here!" Granddaughter sighs, "I don't know anybody else who would be so excited at getting...

His father waits patiently for son’s blue eyes to transform to the hue of his brown eyes. (They never did; he is our only  blue-eyed child.) When I walk downtown,  my babe swaddled in his stroller, a motherly figure approaches  and gasps  at his beauty,  then asks, “What is her name?” I reply only with his male surname,  having all logic caught in the snare of a brain-freeze. Then out of her mouth  comes this, insensitive to me, riposte, “But, he’s too pretty for a boy!” This is the very first time that this happens.  The surprise of her thoughtlessness  is a slap to my face and throws me into an unbalance...
