Weekend Reflections: Crucifix Reflected

This crucifix hangs in St. Francis Church, revered because of Christ's love. more Weekend Reflections Most crucifixes in Catholic churches are attached to a wall. This one hangs from the ceiling, giving depth to our Lord's figure and the wooden cross on which it hangs. The pastor who oversaw the addition to St. Francis' Church was fortunate to have extraordinary parishioners who were gifted artisans.

Weekend Reflections: Picture Frame's Glass

One sunset photo, captured on Beaver Island one summer at dusk. One greeting card quote poking fun at likelihood of cats' conversing. I chose the greeting card because I love a cat's attitude and independence yet his or her willingness to cuddle. Plus the message spoke to me because I have accused Jax of lying to me when he's meowing while sitting in front of his full food  and water bowls. The message of the card:  "If cats could talk, they would lie to you." ~Robert Kopack~ delightful reflections can be found here

Chesterfield's: a Restaurant That Is Not a Restaurant

Having read about a restaurant that's not a restaurant  in Muncie's newspaper, T he Star Press , my daughter-in-law and I decided to eat lunch together at Chesterfield's. The food is cooked and served by Ivy Tech students that are studying the culinary courses. Of course, I had my camera with me so I had fun capturing lots of interesting items, not including the food. I'm sure that many of downtown workers will be taking advantage of the Valentine Day's sale tomorrow. I think this is Virginia Mayo , an actress in the 1940s and 1950s. The table at far right is where daugher-in-law and I enjoyed our food. The turkey Reuben is exquisitely tasty! Although the pumpernickel bread is not yet baked by the students, one of the teachers told me that they would after they've learned about it in the classroom. The only person I recognize in this trio of Chesterfield ads is the actress at the left. She is Lana Turner , whose legs were insure

Ash Wednesday, Beginning of Lent

Today marks the beginning of Lent. More information about Lent can be found here . I received the ashes at Mass this morning. I take pleasure in being at a weekday morning Mass because the school children attend.  Seeing the younger ones' exuberance lifts my spirits.  When the time came for our pastor to bless the ashes, he explained that receiving the ashes is a sacramental, not a sacrament so everyone could receive them.   To get a clearer understanding of the difference between a sacramental and sacrament, go here  and here   I saw a second grader punch her hand in the air because she realized that she could participate.  We adults should work on this enthusiasm for our faith.   At previous weekend Masses, Father addressed the importance of choosing faults we need to work on during Lent.  They are called the three Pillars which include these: Prayers Fasting Almsgiving If one wishes to grow closer to Christ, each person chooses something in each of these areas to try to accompl
My Version of David's Psalm 63 In the depth of my soul is a hunger and thirst for you, O Lord; like the eagle whose wing is broken who yearns to soar to his nest. Lamenting my brokenness,  I search for the road map that shows me the way to you. Will my eyes recognize it? Or will it remain hidden, keeping me on the wrong path? Remove the veil so that  I will consume your Words  to satisfy my hunger and my thirst will be quenched  by your abiding love. Psalm 63 NIV

My Happy Birthday Surprise

This was the image  greeting me when I clicked the online icon on my computer. Teasingly, I called to my son about Google's  celebrating my birthday. When I clicked on the sweet treats the message "Happy Birthday Norma" showed up.   I don't understand how it's done. But I love having this special greeting today! Thank you, Google!
