My Thanks

Holy Card found here My translation of the Holy Card: "Mary, by the very gentle Mother,  we appeal to your intercession, certain that your Son  will grant our prayers." In today's  devotional  Praying the Daily Gospels: A Guide to Meditation,  was this suggestion- "Think of some way  to let the people you know  that you are thankful  for the gifts they bring to your life." So, here is my way... Friends in Bible Study… I give thanks to our Lord for the gifts  you extend to me through your friendship  and acceptance of me,  as I am,  in this place  and in this time.   May our Holy Mother Mary  and her Son Jesus Christ  sprinkle blessings on you and your family. Amen.

My Random 5 for April 4

1. I was privileged to have been in a jam-packed Emens Auditorium  yesterday afternoon to listen to the compelling story of Eva Mozes Kor.   She is not only a Holocaust survivor,  but she and her twin sister Miriam survived  the inhuman experiments done on twins by Josef Mengele,  known as “The Angel of Death.”   When my two friends and I arrived at the lecture hall,  there were curtains drawn across the half closest to the stage,  and the balcony was closed.   As the time drew nearer to our viewing the documentary film " Forgiving Dr. Mengele",  we noticed that the curtains were drawn back esposing the back half,  and the balcony seats were being filled.   Ball State University’s Jewish Studies Program and Emen’s staff  were not prepared for so many of us  wanting to hear Eva’s story.   The film documents time and again that the Holocaust did happen.  And this story should be told again and again  so ...

Mardi Gras Fete at Bible Study

King Cake, as shown on Concannon's Bakery Facebook page One of our Bible Study ladies brought a King Cake from Concannon's to our Mardi Gras Fete today.  Other ladies baked other goodies for us  to indulge ourselves on this Fat Tuesday.   We feast today, for tomorrow,   Ash Wednesday, we will fast on the first day of Lent.   Our faith encourages us to adhere to the Three Pillars of Lent  which include prayer, fasting and alms giving.  During Lent, we fast and abstain  from meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays.   Even children are encouraged to do  a form of these three pillars consistent with their age.   Our Bible Study group chose a different way for us  to help ourselves to grow spiritually during this Lenten season.   Each of us wrote three or more suggestions  pertaining to the three pillars on slips of paper.   Then all of these were put in a beautiful container.   Each week, three slips of paper w...

Random 5 Friday: Winter

1. I am weary of subzero temperatures,  arctic winds and high mounds of snow. 2. But joyfully, I am not suffering depression nor cabin fever! 3. I had the pleasure of taking care of my two sweethearts,  Myah and Leannah, for a short time yesterday.   I am pleased that my granddaughter  has trust in my being able to handle that responsibility. 4. Yesterday I received a book that I’d ordered;  it’s called Thirty-Day Devotions for the Holy Souls by Susan Tassone. I started reading and praying it this morning. 5. We had a goodly number of ladies present  at our Bible Study this week.  Weather caused cancellations for us in January.  We rejoiced that we finally got to meet.   But that was not true for our Women at the Well group.  It meets at night  and causes concerns for the safety of us all,  which is very important.  for Haiku My Heart- Wintry weather brings  tribulations of all sorts, mounds of snow, iced streets. Lin...

Bits and Pieces of Day One of the New Year, 2014

Wednesday, January 1, 2014 After I ventured out today,  I made shopping stops at Dollar General  to buy items that cost lower here than anywhere else,  then Lowe’s for potting soil and sunflower seeds for the birds,  lastly Walmart for a few groceries and nonfood items. At home, I put things away  and potted the cedar ‘tree’ gifted to me from Lowe’s.   (The tree was the reason for the potting soil purchase.)   Next, I cut an apple for my lunch. Lastly, I tended to banking,  read some blogs, then sat down for some serious chillin’! My bit of gratitude:  I’m grateful for all those ladies  in Bible Study and Women at the Well  who contribute to my spiritual welfare. Thank you, ladies.   May the new year shower blessings on you and your families!  This image is a greeting card which I scanned, then added text.

My Litany of Gratitude

My Litany of Gratitude For every breath I take, May I be aware of each. For the ability to walk, May I appreciate this gift with each step I take. For my sight and hearing, May I listen the Gospel and view my place in it. For the Word of God, May it show in my actions. For Jesus’ dying and resurrection, May I show my thankfulness in all that I do. For my sins which have been forgiven, May I venture forth with determination to do better. For the love of family and friends, May I return that love with awareness. The ladies' Bible Study in my parish are studying the spiritual book Abide by Macrina Wiederkehr, OSB. The author wrote the book as an invitation  to invite the reader to make the Word of God one's home through the practice of lectio divina. The detailed explanation about this practice was  taken from the Wikipedia site. I pray that our blessed Mother will assist me in making this beautiful tradition a life-time custom for my daily prayer life. In  Christianity ,...
