Bird at My Feeder

I spied you eating.
With delight, I rushed to find
you in Audubon!

I figured this was a woodpecker of some kind. Sorrowfully, Audubon's North American Birds showed no such bird for me.  Later, youngest son googled on his phone.  Nope, no help there.  Bleh!  Still later, I was reading comments on my blog so I followed the commentator to her blog.  (I like to visit the sites of those who take the time to comment.)  Black Jack's Carol had an image of my new bird!  It's a female downy woodpecker.  Hurrah for bloggers who share their knowledge with us!

I do love woodpeckers, my Mom down in southern Missouri sees a lot of Red Headed Pilated ones and they are gorgeous. Thanks for visiting my Lest I Forget blog--don't get by there as much as the Tin and Sparkle. Have a great weekend.

I don't think I've ever been fortunate enough to photograph a woodpecker. In the UK they are a very shy and elusive bird.
