My Treasure: A Dictionary

After I had imbibed on the words
deliciously served by CJ on his blog
Rambles from My Chair (found here), I was struck
with the urgent need to possess my own
Concise Oxford Dictionary!
Now to see if I could afford to own this treasure.
Off I go to my favorite site Amazon.com.
There I am pleased as punch to find it at a reasonable price.
I click on "Buy now with one click",
record it in my check register...then store the memory who-knows-where
in the land of my brain.
Two days later while my granddaughter
and her dumpling are visiting,
we hear someone at the door, but no one enters.
I proceed to open the front door and see a package.
Said visitor asks me, "What is it, Grams?"
I reply that I don't remember what I ordered.
I rush the mystery package over to the counter
so that I can rip it open.
When I spy my new treasure, I blurt out, "Oh, it's here!"
Granddaughter sighs, "I don't know anybody else who
would be so excited at getting a dictionary in the mail."
What can I say?
It's the little things in life that bring truth to
the song "Life is Just a Bowl of
Cherries."
Page from the Oxford,
first-rate, concise reference,
my dictionary!

Oh how exciting. There is nothing like old books. I am sure you will enjoy. Don't worry, I once forgot where I put my glasses and when I found them, they were in my kitchen cabinet, believe it or not. tee hee. Great post.

well, it's not from THE FIRST editions, but put together like it, or I couldn't have bought it!
I understand about misplacing your glasses; in recent years I do try to put them, keys, etc. in the same place each time. But...you know.

I understand completely, Norma. This is the girl who requested a dictionary from her parents as a HS graduation gift. My English teacher reccomended "The American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language". Dad went downtown Avery supply and found one which was leather bound and was able to have it engraved (the man who did actual engraving was about to retire but he engraved it as one of his last projects). It exsist today as one of my prised possessions!

Aren't they thrilling? Absolutely full of wonderful words, stupefying words, words that can express an idea with precision, words that can muddle clarity.

Pondering about My Blog

I've been through quite a bit these past months that I haven't posted.  First, packing and moving and then unpacking . The first step of unpacking was my taking down boxes that were five and six boxes high.  About two weeks after I’d moved and was in the midst of unpacking, I developed horrendous pain in my ribs. I slathered on my gel I use to alleviate Fibromyalgia pain. Realizing that even that was not helping. Trying to make a long story short- Asked for pain pills No help; asked for another kind Doctor wanted to see me Went in- he didn’t understand why I was still in pain Sent me to get x-rays Diagnosis: compressed fracture in my 9th vertebra Cause: osteporosis Now on meds for that I’ve discovered that anytime I overdo, pain comes back, not quite full-blown, but enough that I must stop doing whatever I’m doing. That includes sitting at my computer writing. I wanted to bring my friends up-to-date; I’m pondering whether I should stop blogging altogether o
