Sepia Saturday#196: My Mother and Siblings

my mother,
her mom and siblings
ere my birth

My grandmother, a widow with six sons and one daughter
had married a second time to the grandpa I knew.
Their children are the smallest ones in the photo.
I don't know the pet's name because, as is seen here,
the seven older children are adults and not living here.
Momma must have come from work or was going there
because she's dressed in a restaurant uniform.
The Green Kitchen, where she was the cook,
was where she met my dad.

I chose children as my subject
for the meme

Excellent photo, such a treasure, your family, and The Green Kitchen spikes my curiosity, what a different name for a place to eat. I grew up with a Red Door Restaurant nearby, it's funny how some names just stick with a person. Thanks.

That's quite a family gathering. Trust the dog to get in on the act.

Quite a group there. I can't figure out who is the mother of all these kids.

A nice group of happy people! The interplay between the little boy & dog is fun too.

Great photo. When I see photos like this I always wonder how they were taken. Who did the prodding and the prompting to get everyone to line up on that particular occasion and why. How they might have grumbled and had to be coaxed away from their cup of tea or preparing a meal....and how grateful they might all have been in the future to be able to look back and say "Look at so and so...they're not here anymore...or how they've grown"...

The mother (my grandmother) is the 3rd adult from the right. All together my grandma had 12 children, 10 survived infancy.

The photographer could have been one of my two uncles who are not present for this photo. I think my mom's siblings did not mind being photographed since there are quite a few of family photos for this period in the late 1930s.

Well, I find that names and events from decades ago are more present in my memory bank than those in most recent past years.

Pets are fun like that!

That is a big family. It reminds me of my husbands family for more reasons that one.

My father in law was one of 12 (6 from the first wife and 6 from the second). My husband has an uncle who is younger than him.

Also my husbands parents met in a restaurant, where his mother was a waitress.

Isn't it fun how lives can parallel with persons in different hemispheres? That's one of the reasons I love blogging!

Dogs never like to be left out; this is a great family group - we have none to match it.
love old photos, such wonderful memories!

That photo has been handled a bit :) It has the lovely casual feel that you get when people like each other.
ah yes, little boys are so easily distracted aren't they. My brother is like this in so many of our photos, if not distracted then playing the fool!
great photo

Pondering about My Blog

I've been through quite a bit these past months that I haven't posted.  First, packing and moving and then unpacking . The first step of unpacking was my taking down boxes that were five and six boxes high.  About two weeks after I’d moved and was in the midst of unpacking, I developed horrendous pain in my ribs. I slathered on my gel I use to alleviate Fibromyalgia pain. Realizing that even that was not helping. Trying to make a long story short- Asked for pain pills No help; asked for another kind Doctor wanted to see me Went in- he didn’t understand why I was still in pain Sent me to get x-rays Diagnosis: compressed fracture in my 9th vertebra Cause: osteporosis Now on meds for that I’ve discovered that anytime I overdo, pain comes back, not quite full-blown, but enough that I must stop doing whatever I’m doing. That includes sitting at my computer writing. I wanted to bring my friends up-to-date; I’m pondering whether I should stop blogging altogether o

Quirky Poem

Have humans sat here? Not recently, I think. Perhaps a snow couple rested for a while, and the shadowy remnants of them remain. more Cool Clicks
