ABC Wednesday: Xenodochium

Xenodochium,
sited on Ellis Island
where the Rudes entered.

My pa's ancestors
from Stratford-upon-Avon
emigrated here.

defintion of xenodochium
a building for reception of strangers

I think that the building on Ellis Island
certainly qualifies as a xenodochium
since it received innumerable strangers
faring their way into our country.

Eternal thanks to my brother's widow
who began the search for both of our parents' ancestors
many, many years ago.  Additionally, it was through
her efforts that our family's name is posted on a wall
at Ellis Island.

Oh yes Ellis Island was a xenodochium. My relatives from Scotland came through there.

Ann, my sister-in-law discovered that some of our grandmother's family also came from Scotland, but we're unsure if they came that same way.
