Loving Lupita: Virgin of Guadalupe

La Promesa holy card

I receive "Saint of the Day"  from Franciscan Media.
Today's featured saint is St. Juan Diego.
Here is then-Pope John Paul's homily on the day of Juan Diego's canonization

St. John Paul's Homily for the Canonization of Juan Diego
July 31, 2002
“In accepting the Christian message without forgoing his indigenous identity, Juan Diego discovered the profound truth of the new humanity, in which all are called to be children of God.  Thus he facilitated the fruit meeting of two worlds and became the catalyst for the new Mexican identity, closely united to Our Lady of Guadalupe, whose mestizo face expresses her spiritual motherhood which embraces all Mexicans.  That is why the witness of his life must continue to be the inspiration for the building up of the Mexican nation, encouraging brotherhood among all its children and ever helping to reconcile Mexico with its origins, values and traditions.”

Interesting homily -- so, other than both being Mexican in origin, what's the connection between the two mentioned?

dear nonnie, the virgin of guadalupe is the patron saint of all of mexico. i love her appearance to juan diego. he was so moved by her that he spent the rest of his life perched outside the basilica speaking to anyone who would listen of her love and light!

I appreciate reading the Pope's words about Juan Diego--and the two photos that you shared. What a journey we've been on, haven't we?
Can you imagine the self doubt that we would have had we experienced the visions he did? It takes courage.

Yes, I can, Paula, especially when one is not especially learned in the ways of those like priests and sisters.

Each time Rebecca hosts this I learn more about our Blessed Mother and enjoy the art people do.

I did not know about his spending time outside the basilica. for sure, getting the story from the source would be wonderful.

Pondering about My Blog

I've been through quite a bit these past months that I haven't posted.  First, packing and moving and then unpacking . The first step of unpacking was my taking down boxes that were five and six boxes high.  About two weeks after I’d moved and was in the midst of unpacking, I developed horrendous pain in my ribs. I slathered on my gel I use to alleviate Fibromyalgia pain. Realizing that even that was not helping. Trying to make a long story short- Asked for pain pills No help; asked for another kind Doctor wanted to see me Went in- he didn’t understand why I was still in pain Sent me to get x-rays Diagnosis: compressed fracture in my 9th vertebra Cause: osteporosis Now on meds for that I’ve discovered that anytime I overdo, pain comes back, not quite full-blown, but enough that I must stop doing whatever I’m doing. That includes sitting at my computer writing. I wanted to bring my friends up-to-date; I’m pondering whether I should stop blogging altogether o

Quirky Poem
