ABC WEDNESDAY: Xanthophyll

xanthophyll brings change
during my fav’rite season-
exquisite autumn!

joining others
created by Mrs. Nesbitt
maintained by the ever faithful Roger
and hosted this week by Joy

Xanthophyll (originally phylloxanthin) is the yellow pigment found in the leaves of most plants.  It is involved in photosynthesis along with green chlorophyll, which typically covers up the yellow except in autumn.

Hoosier Quote:
“No town can fail of beauty,
though its walks be gutters and its houses hovels,
if venerable trees make a magnificent colonnade along its streets.”
~Henry Ward Beecher~

Gorgeous colour and quite a size of tree to show it off. It's interesting to think that the vivid green of June leafs hides this underneath.
