The YWCA is a fine organization that served an important need. These were safe places for women, and perhaps still are.

I had to look up the internet to see if we even have a YWCA - the YMCA (commonly just called the Y) is much more prominent as a fitness facility that offers other community services.

Our YMCA has many more members than the YWCA, but the YWCA has rooms for single mothers and their children can live. Also they have programs for them to encourage ability to live on their own.
