The following explanation
about the symbol used by Boy Scouts
came from Wikipedia.
Other uses of the fleur-de-lis
can be found
here.
The fleur-de-lis is the main element in the logo of most Scouting organizations, representing a major theme in Scouting: purity and right direction. The World Scout Emblem of the World Organization of the Scout Movement, has elements of which are used by most national Scout organizations. The symbol was chosen by Sir Robert Baden-Powell as it had been the arm-badge of those soldiers qualified as "Scouts" (reconnaissance specialists) when he served in the British Army. The classical description of this shape in Scouting literature connects the compass rose with the purpose of Scouting's principles—namely that Scouting gives one's life direction. The stars stand for truth and knowledge, the encircling rope for unity, and its reef knot or square knot, service.[40]

Lovely. Good carving job. When I was in Property Management, we had a beautiful Homeowner Association called Fleur de Lis. The symbol was everywhere.

Nicely carved Pumpkin! I never knew why the Scouts used the Fleur-de-lis and I should have since I am an old Girl Scout Leader with plenty of Boy Scout leader friends. Thanks for sharing!

I'd like to be able to carve a pumpkin like that. Kate ABC Team

I didn't realize the fleur-de-lys was the scout symbol. I probably did know but like many things have forgotten. We have been great supporters of the scouting movement over the years. Their values are timeless.

that makes sense, Leslie

I thought so, Rog; that's why it drew my attention as I approached the steps into my church.

as were my hubby and I! first he was Cub Scout leader, than he moved up to Boy Scout leader when our boys moved up.

I wouldn't be able to do such exacting carving as this.

What a splendid pumpkin carving. The best (and only) one I've ever done was a huge one when I was in Canada some years ago.
Nonnie said…
indeed it is, thanks for visiting, Al! I can brag because I didn't do it.
Nonnie said…
I think it is because it's not ordinary.

A pumpkin on a pedestal. I didn't know what the symbol was for.
