Random 5 Friday: Really Random

Random 5 Friday
February 21, 2014

1. Dramatic news from oldest granddaughter! Her boyfriend proposed to her on a ski-lift this week.
note: I assembled this ecard for them
with my Creative Memories
Storybook Creator program.

2. Today marks two days of temperatures about freezing mark.  However, I still have thick ice still on my driveway.  Thus, I’m still walking gingerly when going to my car or the mailbox.

3. I was tickled to scrapbook with my sister-in-law and a friend yesterday evening.  We hadn’t met for two months because of inclement weather.  I’m working on an album of vintage family photos and ephemera from 60 and 70 years ago.
my mom's mint green Buick
with white hard top
On the back she'd written "my old buddy."

4. I noticed a U-Haul moving van in front of a young couple who lives across from me.  We weren’t close, but friendly, we chatted whenever we saw each other.  I hope the new neighbors will be as cordial.

5. Our parish has received a book each Christmas from our present pastor since he was assigned here.  The book we received this time is Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic by Matthew Kelly.  About 30 of us are meeting on Sunday mornings for six weeks to discuss the book and how we can make the changes in our own lives, consequently in our parish by implementing the positive elements.  I find myself peering into my spiritual life and already making some changes, hoping to grow in holiness.
Kelly uses the term “a better-version-of-yourself.”  I prefer saying ‘growing in holiness’ since Jesus spoke about becoming "holy, as your Father is holy." Perhaps I’m getting too bogged down in semantics; I hope not because I reflect and work at choosing just the right way to communicate my thoughts.

Congrats to your granddaughter and her boyfriend. What a lovely way to propose. My youngest daughter was on the ski slope when her boyfriend proposed to her. Gee, time flies... their oldest is 22.

I think your term is aptly, and how good that there are such mental excitation groups. (I miss that often).
Have a great and quiet weekend with warmer temps :-)

even for the 1960s, this car had the best radio sound! sometimes on Friday or Saturday night after my mom closed her restaurant, we'd go for a drive so we could listen to music without any interruptions. :)

Your 6 week bible study / discussion group sounds great, and a topic that all of us need to be looking at always. Love that photo of your mom's old car, and what a fun project to be scrapbooking all of those old photos. Something that I should be working on my self. Looking forward to warmer weather, and the end of the "ice age". A pretty tough winter.

Pondering about My Blog

I've been through quite a bit these past months that I haven't posted.  First, packing and moving and then unpacking . The first step of unpacking was my taking down boxes that were five and six boxes high.  About two weeks after I’d moved and was in the midst of unpacking, I developed horrendous pain in my ribs. I slathered on my gel I use to alleviate Fibromyalgia pain. Realizing that even that was not helping. Trying to make a long story short- Asked for pain pills No help; asked for another kind Doctor wanted to see me Went in- he didn’t understand why I was still in pain Sent me to get x-rays Diagnosis: compressed fracture in my 9th vertebra Cause: osteporosis Now on meds for that I’ve discovered that anytime I overdo, pain comes back, not quite full-blown, but enough that I must stop doing whatever I’m doing. That includes sitting at my computer writing. I wanted to bring my friends up-to-date; I’m pondering whether I should stop blogging altogether o
